Abstract
In the production of mixed salts containing both ammoniacal and nitrate nitrogen by treating aqueous or anhydrous solutions of ammonium nitrate in ammonia with acids, acid anhydrides, or acid salts as in the parent Specification, the reagents are mixed in the presence of solid substances, advantageously salts additional to those employed in or resulting from the primary reaction. The added substances may be fertilizer salts such as potassium chloride, sulphate or nitrate, or calcium or diammonium phosphate. According to examples, solutions of ammonium nitrate in ammonia are treated with phosphoric acid, and potassium chloride or nitrate, or powdered alumina, or ammonium sulphate and kieselguhr, or with sulphuric acid, and broken gypsum, or diammonium phosphate and potassium chloride.
