Abstract

323,812. Tyrer, C., and Mahood, G. H. Oct. 13, 1928. Connecting continuously delivered material to the winding-means.-To facilitate the starting operations in twisting artificial silk by means of ring or flyer spindle apparatus, one end of a " starting-thread " 6 of any suitable material is threaded through the traveller or flyer and secured to the bobbin and the other end is then lapped at a suitable point 7a around the material passing from the metier to a waste roller 4 or the godet, and the material simultaneously severed at 7<b>, the spindle being started immediately before these operations to effect an appreciable pull on the material. When a separate godet or draft roller 3 is provided for each spindle the roller 4 may be omitted, the roller 3 then serves as a waste roller and the " starting-thread " is attached as shown in Fig. 5, the waste being cleared from the roller 3 and the attached material led therearound for the normal operation of the spindles. In either method, if the material breaks during normal working, twisted material from the bobbing being wound may be used as " the starting-thread."
