305,995. MacLean, W. G. Feb. 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Forceps; gagging appliances .-Tongs for clamping and opening an animal's jaws comprise pivoted levers 5, 6 having bit members 12, 14 at one end. Clamps 15, 16 with U-shaped ends 17, 18 are pivotally mounted on the levers 5, 6 and can be pressed down and looked in engagement with the animal's jaws, after it has taken the bit, bv a lever 20 mounted on lever 6 and connected to clamp 15 by links 21 and a pin 25 which moves in a slot 19 in clamp 16. The locking means for the clamps consists of a lever 22, mounted on links 21, engaging a ratchet face 24 on lever 6 and connected by a spring 23 with lever 22. When the jaws have been clamped the mouth can be forced open bv pressing levers 5, 6 together.
