Abstract
228,733. Thim, H. H. March 13, 1924. Pliers.-A pair of pliers consists of two handle members 3, 5 pivoted together at 6, the one handle 3 having formed integrally therewith a jaw 1 and the other 5 having a projection 17 adapted to engage one of a number of fulcrum notches 15 in a jaw 2, the pivot 8 of which can be connected to either of the handles 3, 5. A link 11, also pivoted at 6, carries the pivot 8 and also a yoke-shaped member 9. The member 9 can be moved to engage a slot 13 in either of the handle members 3, 5 to look the pivot 8 thereto, notches 12 being provided in the handles to receive the pivot pin. When the pivot is locked to the handle 3 the projection 17 can be placed in any of the notches 15 so that the maximum pressure of the pliers can be obtained on articles of different sizes, whereas when the pivot is locked to the handle 5, the tool becomes in effect an ordinary pair of pliers.
