Abstract

305,112. Chaplin, A. W. C. Oct. 28, 1927. Air, controlling direction of flow of. -Tea leaf, &c. is withered in a manner simulating natural withering in a chamber having openings, provided, if desired, with exhaust fans, in its walls &c. by a current of warm dry air at a pressure slightly above atmosphere. Atmospheric air is drawn through a screen b into a fan c and forced over a furnace f into a transverse or longitudinal duct g which communicates with ducts h having gratings through which the air passes into the chamber in which the tea leaf is supported upon inclined superposed perforate trays l disposed in three storeys in the chamber. The passage of the air over and through the trays is assisted by fans n arranged in openings in the chamber walls. The air not exhausted by the fans n passes through perforations j<1> into the upper storeys of the chamber and is exhausted by fans o disposed in openings in the chamber walls. An exhaust compartment q communicating through openings s with the interior of the chamber is provided. The trays supporting the tea leaf may be vibrated.
