Abstract

429,341. Conditioning grain. SIMON, Ltd., H., and WATTS, G., Cheadle Heath, Stockport, Cheshire. Sept. 27, 1933, No. 26547. [Class 58] Hot saturated air at a temperature not exceeding 150‹ F., is drawn from a chamber 1 through a main duct or header 5 to transverse inlet ducts 13 from which it flows through louvred apertures into grain passing down the conditioning tower the air escaping through similar louvred apertures into outlet ducts 13A and thence passing by a main exhaust duct 11 to a suction fan. The openings of the inlet and outlet ducts may be arranged alternately in successive divisions of the tower. The saturated air is preferably confined to an upper section 8 of the tower by closing a valve 12 and any increase in the moisture content of the grain due to condensation is counteracted by subjecting the grain to treatment with air at a temperature not exceeding the temperature of the grain in a second section 9 of the tower; as an alternative the moisture content of the grain may be reduced prior to conditioning. Cold atmospheric air is drawn through a third section 10 of the tower to reduce the temperature of the grain to normal. The conditioning, drying and cooling operations may be carried out in successive towers. Specification 12900/93, [Class 58], is referred to.
