Wire resistances, threaded' and enclosed. - In an electric heating element of the type comprising a wire resistance supported on an insulating member which is mounted on a frame or enclosed in a tube the insulating member is provided with a metallic edging which serves as a return lead. In the arrangement shown the insulating member consists of a number of mica plates 12 through holes in which is threaded the resistance wire 14. The plates 12 are secured together by metal strips 13 forming a binding for their edges and serving as a return lead. The element is supported in insulated form in a tube 10 by pieces of mica 20 with rounded ends 21 arranged between the pieces 12 and passing through slots in the edging 13 to abut against the sides of the tube. Alternatively, pieces of mica 22. may be secured to the pieces 12 by eyelets 23 and abut against the tube. Other forms of supporting pieces are described which, with their fastenings, in some cases strengthen the heating element against bending.
