Resistance grids.-In a resistance grid consisting of wire, which may be wound in the manner described in Specification 190,137, [Class 83 (iv), Metals, Working], held between metal clamps or cross-straps, the clamps or straps are so formed as to direct the air diagonally through the grid. The grid bars A are held between plates C, E, insulated from the bars and bent as shown. Alternate bars may be bent in opposite directions, as shown in Fig. 2, to increase the air space between them. The terminals may be carried on the plates C, E, or the ends of the bars may be bent, as shown at b, to embrace rods serving as terminals. One pair of clamping plates only may be employed, as shown in the left hand part of Fig. 9. The grids may be so arranged in a bank that the clamping-plates of adjacent grids form practically continuous baffles, as shown in the right-hand half of Fig. 9. The ends of the clamping-plates of adjacent grids may be bent at right-angles and joined by pieces U embracing insulated supporting rods P. When the clamping bars do not carry the terminals the straps may be mounted on rods and metal connections forming a lattice standard.
