Abstract
289,778. Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd., (formerly Metropolitan- Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd.), (Assignees of Baker, 13. P.). April 30, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 288,326. Arc-rupturing devices, of the kind described in the parent Specification, in which the arc is blown up into a deionizing structure 21 comprising a series of metal plates and is then divided into sections separated by field coils 43, 47, 49 which drive the sections of arc round and round the upper circular portions of the plates, are characterized by the field coils being so arranged that they drive the sections round in opposite directions. The plates between the coils 43, 47, 49 have the shape shown in Fig. 2, excepting that the slots 36 of successive plates are staggered. The plates below the coils have the shape shown in Fig. 5 and those immediately adjacent the coils have the shape shown in Fig. 4. The plates and coils are mounted on an iron bolt 51 provided with longitudinal slots 52 to minimize eddy currents.
