Abstract

Retorts. - Fuel is distilled in chambers in a rotating drum and is compressed after it softens during distillation by means of a plunger which enters each chamber in turn during a period of rest of the drum. Tho fuel is fed by a charging device k into chambers d formed by longitudinal walls c and transverse walls on the exterior of a rotary drum a, the chambers being closed by a surrounding stationary drum e. A plunger p serves to compress the charge in each chamber when the latter is opposite an opening o. Burners t, u are provided for heating the apparatus, the combustion gases passing through a space f surrounding the stationary drum and through the internal space g of the rotary drum.
