Abstract
282,132. Montgomery, B. G. Sept. 9, 1926. Stropping-apparatus.-A knife or razor blade D to be stropped or honed is held by a holder C carried by a spindle B the ends of which are mounted in the sides of a case A. On the spindle are pinions E gearing with teeth on discs G carried by spindles F<1> in support F in the box; the supports may be carried on springs. A lid A<1> for the box has on its underside a strop or hone H and is provided with flanges engaging flanges A<3> on the box. In operation, the lid is slid to and fro, and by engagement with the discs G rocks the blade into contact with the strop. The blade may be reciprocated axially of the spindle B by cam surfaces J, J' on the lid, which engage the ends of the spindle, the ends projecting, for that purpose, beyond the sides of the box; one cam surface only may be provided, a spring keeping the spindle up to the surface. A spring catch K and a shoulder A<4> on the lid prevent complete withdrawal of the lid. The first Provisional Specification describes also a construction of case containing, and having clips for scouring, a razor when not in use, and padding may be provided for protecting the blade edge. The strop is secured to end flanges on the lid by means of screws; the spring catch may be actuated by a knob thereon.
