Abstract

138,837. Lake, F. O. Oct. 27, 1919. V-slot and like blade sharpeners. - A combination knife and scissors sharpener comprises a file plate 1 slidable longitudinally in side grooves 5 formed in a holder. The holder is formed in one piece and has a base 3, an offset handle 2 forming a shoulder 4, and side flanges 10, 11. The inward movement of the file plate is limited by the shoulder 4, and the outward movement thereof is limited 'by means of a plate sprin, 6, the notches 8 of which are adapted to engage the sides of a slot 9 in the base; the spring may be removed to allow of reversal or removal of the plate. The flanges 10, 11 form guide-slots 12 for a knife blade, the slots having enlarged ends 13 to prevent contact between the knife edge and the holder, and the flanges 11 are bevelled at 14 to form guides for the flat side of a scissors blade. The file plate is of such length as to allow of longitudinal movement thereof to enable all of its surface to be utilized; it may have fine and coarse serrations on its faces.
