Abstract

281,261. Krupp Germaniawerft Akt.- Ges., F. Nov. 26, 1926, [Convention date]. Four-stroke-cycle engines.-In Diesel engines which draw air into the cylinder during the first part of the suction stroke, pre-compressed air being admitted towards the end of this stroke, a single slide valve J is used to control the connection of the cylinder to the atmosphere and to the pressure supply The valve moves in the suction conduit 11 and is worked through the lever K from the cam L. The lower part of the conduit 11 is surrounded by a box divided by a partition n<1> into two chambers n<2>, n<3>. The upper position of the corresponds to the first part of the suction stroke and air enters the cylinder through the lower chamber n<3>; towards the end of the stroke the valve moves down and air under pressure enters the conduit II from the chamber n<2> through ports h<1>. The amount of supercharge is determined by the time the valve is in its lower position. At the end of the exhaust stroke the air trapped in the conduit H between the valve J and the cylinder admission valve F is used to scavenge the last part of the exhaust gases; if desired the valve J may be held open slightly at this period to permit air from the pressure chamber n<2> to effect this scavenging. The Specification as open to public inspection also states that in a multi-cylinder engine a single valve such as J may be used for the control of air to two adjacent cylinders. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
