Abstract

454,805. Four-stroke-cycle compound engines. MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA, 4, Ni-chome, Marunouchi, Kojimachiku, Tokio. June 14, 1935, No. 17204. Convention date, June 29, 1934. [Class 7 (ii)] Two high-pressure cylinders 1, 2 working on a four-stroke cycle, exhaust into and receive their charge from a common lowpressure cylinder 3 operating on a two-stroke cycle. The open periods of the valves 12, 13 overlap so that air compressed in the head of the cylinder 3 and the transfer pipes 10, 11 is swept into the high-pressure cylinder on its suction stroke by the pressure of the gases in the companion cylinder which is completing its working stroke. Piston valves are used and control not only the main transfer passages 10, 11 but an auxiliary scavenging passage. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, for adjusting the period of overlap the valve operating lever may be pivoted on a shaft eccentric to and adjustable about its axis. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
