As shown, the usual narrowing occurs between the points 6 and 7. The needles from the point 9 to approximately the point 11 will be brought into action picking up the held loops on the inactive needles. Widening thereupon occurs until the point 13 is reached when the course 15 is knitted on all the needles. A similar process of narrowing and widening completes the heel. Thereby sutures defining the edges of the gore 23 are formed commencing from the point 11 of greatest widening.
