204,325. Hemphill Co., (Assignees of Lawson, R. H.). Sept. 25, 1922, [Convention date]. Stockings and socks.-Split fabrics for hosiery are knitted with inclined suture lines 197, 198, defining triangular or other high spliced areas 196. Knitting of the area 196, Fig. 10, is begun on four short butt or heel needles which knit the course 199; at subsequent courses other short-butt needles are taken in at one or both sides until the whole of the heel needles are at work. Simultaneously another piece of fabric is knit on the remainder of the heel needles and the whole of the instep or long-butt needles, the number of needles in work successively decreasing. These two pieces of fabric are united in the course of knitting to form an undivided stocking-leg portion in integral continuation of a seamless upper-leg portion. Specification 20101/09, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], is referred to.
