Abstract
261,225. Fitzpatrick, H. D., (Marquette Tool & Manufacturing Co.) Feb. 9, 1926. Cupping; embossing. - A press for embossing and drawing sheet metal &c. has co-operating dies 10, 14 the lower of which is supported by a number of cushioning devices, in such a manner that at a given point in the stroke, the drawing resistance is transferred from one group of cushioning devices to another group. The plate 19 carrying pins 20 supporting the lower dies is slidablv mounted on a piston-rod 17 controlled by fluid pressure in a cylinder 16. Cylinders 21 pivotally-mounted on the cylinder 16 are provided with piston-rods 27 linked at 35 to bell-cranks 34, the free ends of which are linked to the plate 19. The bell-cranks are pivoted at 30 to a plate 28 loosely mounted on the piston-rod 17, the latter being shouldered at 18 to support the plate 28. The links 31. 29 are in alignment for the first part of the drawing operation, but when adjustable stops 36 on the piston-rods 27 contact with the cylinder head the drawing resistance is transferred from the fluid-pressure in the lower end of the cylinder 16 to the fluid pressure in the upper end of the cylinders 21.
