Abstract

258,763. Walker, C. L. Jan. 5, 1926. Crank shafts.-In a crank shaft with four cranks the outer ones A, D being 180‹ apart but 90‹ from the outer ones, the balance, weights for each half of the shaft are arranged to balance the movement about the centre of all the cranks in that half of the shaft. As shown for a shaft having disc cranks, a semi-circular balance weight H, Fig. 1, is arranged midway between the cranks on each half of the. shaft so as to prevent deflection of the shaft between the centre and its ends, the weight being secured to an annular disc integral with the shaft. In a modification each shaft half has two balance weights, H, h, Figs. 3 and 4, the resultant centre of gravity of the two weights facing within the angle included by the extended centre line 2-2, of the outer crank A and the extension of a line 1-1 bisecting the angle between the cranks A, B.
