Abstract

Connecting uppers to insoles and soles.-A shoe is rendered waterproof by attaching over the crease between the upper and the top of the outer sole or welt a strip of leather or like flexible and waterproof material. The strip 2, Fig. 3, is skived and the featheredged margin 1 is upturned, as by passing the strip between rollers. The face G of the body of the strip is secured by cement and, if necessary, stitches to the top of the sole edge or welt, the angular portion A is forced by a blunt tool or roller into the crease, and the face F of the margin is then cemented to the upper. In a modification, Fig. 6, a second tapered feather 7 is provided on the strip and is held between the welt and upper by the inseam stitching.
