Abstract
236,994. Hansford, J. April 12, 1924. Gas, supplying by meter.-The crown wheel e engageable by a coin is locked when the maximum number of coins is inserted by the arm k' of a lever k which is provided with a detent k<3> and a cam surface k<2>, the lever being actuated by a collar f on an axially-moving spindle a<1> engaging the detent k<3>. When sufficient gas has been consumed the lever k is held out of engagement with the crown wheel by the collar f making contact with the cam surface k<2>. The spindle a<1> has a screw a<2> at one end passing through the crown wheel which acts as a nut and, at the other end, a disc b to actuate the valve lever. The spindle is rotated by a worm 3a driven from the checking mechanism of the meter and engaging a worm wheel d slidably mounted on the spindle a<1> intermediate its ends. The prepayment mechanism either with or without the coin mechanism is carried on a plate a mounted outside the meter so as to be readily detachable as a unit for inspection &c. Indicators.-The collar f is grooved and carries an arm g engaging a helical groove in a sleeve g<1> which has a pointer h' for indicating the amount of gas prepaid but unconsumed.
