288,688. A. E. G. Machinery & Apparatus Co., Ltd., and Smith, B. M. Jan. 7, 1927. Electricity, supplying by a a prepayment electricity meter the coin actuated mechanism closes the switch and energizes a spring which assists the meter, and the integrating portion of the meter is connected to the quantity mechanism by a train of wheels one of which is displaceable to allow the mechanism to be zeroized without further movement of the meter. Rotation of a knob 8, after prepayment, sets forward the planet wheel 12 of an epicyclic quantity mechanism, the planet wheel radius arm rotating a shait 17 through gearing 15, 16. The end of the shaft, 17 is formed as a part cylinder 23<1> which forms a stop for a lever 24 controlling the switch. The shaft 17 has a grooved pulley 18 connected to the framework by a spring 19 which is thus tensioned, and a slotted disc 20 co-operating with a pin 22 to limit the number of coins which can be inserted at one time. The return of the shaft 17 to its initial circuit breaking position normally takes place under the control of a meter shaft 3 through a universal coupling 4, 6, shaft 6, gearing 7, 26, 28, 29, the wheel 29 being rigid with one sun wheel 11 of the quantity mechanism which thereby returns the planet wheel 12. The wheel 28 is fixed to a shaft 27 which can slide through but rotates with the wheel 26. In order to zeroize the mechanism before the quantity prepaid has been consumed a key 33 is inserted through the casing into. engagement with a pin 34, and rotated to engage a knob 32 on the shaft 27 thereby displacing the shaft against a spring 30 and disengaging the wheel 28 from the wheel 29. The shaft 17 is then free to rotate to its initial position under the action of the spring 19.
