Gas, supplying by meter.-In a quantity meter prepayment mechanism in which the cam 2 operating the valve controlling the fluid flow is secured to an arm 9 carrying a planet wheel 6 which engages sun wheel 10 operable on the insertion of a coin to open the valve and an internally toothed wheel 8 operated through worm gearing 3, 4 to close the valve by the passage of the fluid, means are. provided to prevent the driving member 7 on the coin pocket from being moved into engagement with a ratchet wheel 5 to turn the sunwheel 10 when after the insertion of a predetermined number of coins the cam is nearing its end position. These means comprise a plate 27 on a sleeve 26 normally pressed by a spring 30 against a stop 31 on one end of a spindle 25 which is axially slidable in the hub 11 of the wheel 10 and ratchet wheel 5. The spindle 25 carries at its other end a cup 24 fitted with a pin 22 which is guided by a forked arm 32 and engages a helical groove 21 of varying pitch in a sleeve 20 rigidly connected to the cam 2. When after a predetermined prepayment the cam approaches its end position the engagement of the pin 22 with the groove 21 causes the spindle 25 to be moved to the right and the plate 27 presses against the side of the member 7 thereby compressing the spring 30. When the last inserted coin is discharged the member 7 moves radially outwards and the plate 27 moves under it so as to prevent its further operation until a certain quantity of gas has been consumed.
