Gas, supplying by meter.- A plug valve normally held open by a spring 130, Fig. 1, is closed by a sleeve nut 14 15, the sleeve being rotated by travelling on a screwed spindle 15, the sleeve being rotated by a worm 160 on a meter driven spindle 16 engaging a worm wheel 142. The screw 15 is rotated by prepayment to allow the valve to open. The valve and the prepayment mechanism are carried by a plate 18 easily detachable from the meter. Coin action, mechanical-connection; pricechanging mechanism.-The coin-mechanism comprises a fixed outer cylindrical casing 19 and two inner slotted casings 20, 22, the casing 20 being provided with a handle 200 having a bearing in a price-change disc 21. The casing 20 has two stops 202, 203, Fig. 4, which engage with stops 220, 211 on the casing 22 and the disc 21 respectively when the handle is turned in an anti-clockwise direction to bring the slots in the casings into alignment with each other and with a slot 210 in the disc 21 and a slot 201 in the handle. After insertion of a coin, the handle is turned in a clockwise direction until a stop 222 on the casing 22 engages a stop in the casing 19 whereupon the coin drops through a slot in the casing 19 to a money-box. A pawl 230 on the casing 22, during. its clockwise rotation, drives two ratchet wheels- 23, 24 connected together and secured to the screwed spindle 15. Backward rotation of the ratchet wheel is prevented by a pawl engaging' the wheel 24. Reverse rotation of the inner casings, when a coin is present, is prevented by the coin engaging a tail 231 of the pawl 230. The price-change disc is secured in adjusted position by a pin engaging one of a series of peripheral notches 212. Indicators.-On the sleeve 14 is a collar 25 which is secured to a bent rod 26 carrying a pointer over a scale mounted in a frame 27.
