Abstract
190,418. Boyce, R. D. May 29, 1922. Hand sieves.- A sieve suitable for calcium carbide, ashes and the like comprises a flexible tube a, b of leather, or textile or other fabric, which is divided centrally by a perforated diaphragm d sewn thereto. The ends of the tube may be closed by means of draw-strings, elastic bands, or the like e. The end b being closed, material to be sifted is placed in the end a which is in turn closed, and sifting is then commenced. The part a is rubbed round on the material to remove all small particles. In Fig. 3, the diaphragm c is fixed to a ring g having outwardly-curved edges h into which the ends of two flexible bags a, b can ba fastened by means of elastic bands j. In a modification, the diaphragm is mounted in a ring g, Fig. 5, which is secured in the centre of the tube a, b. To the ends of the tube are fastened elastic lips k, which may be closed by inserting them into internally-grooved bifurcated spring clips m.
