Abstract

696,506. Sifting apparatus. EWERS, R. M. Feb. 6, 1952 [Feb. 8, 1951], No. 3053/51. Class 117 A cinder sifter comprises a rectangular container 1 for the ash over which is placed a removable container 2 having a removable lid 4 but no bottom and provided with flanges 5 to fit the top of the box 1. Within the box 2, two U-shaped members 8 rotatably mounted in holes 12 in the side of the box support a rockable sieve 11. The sieve box consists of a framework which at one end is formed into a hopper 15 having a floor sloping down to an aperture, and at the other ends forms a shoot 10 for the sifted material, which extends through an opening in the side of the container 2. The sifting element 17 consists of detachable perforated metal or gauze, the portion adjacent the shoot being of unperforated metal to form the base of the shoot. A curtain 22 of flexible material is attached to the container 2 and covers the opening for the shoot to prevent the egress of dust but allow the sifted material to pass. Attached to the hopper portions of the sieve is a rod 19, provided with a rubber buffer 21, which passes through a hole in the container 2 and is provided with a handle for reciprocating the sieve. A similar rubber buffer is attached to the other end of the sieve on a turned down portion 18 of the shoot base.
