Abstract
237,389. Cable, F. W. May 26, 1924. Separating by falling on rebounding surfaces; sieves with compound motion; sieves and screens, forms and construction of. - Hard and soft materials, such as coal and household refuse, are separated by being forcibly projected on to a surface moving in a direction opposite to the direction of projection, the hard materials rebounding in their original direction and the soft materials clinging to the surface and being delivered in a different direction. In the construction described, the moving surface is a rotating circular table 4, or an endless travelling band. The projector consists of a casing 3 and paddles carried by a driven shaft 2 underneath a hopper 1 with delivery regulating damper 20. The rebounding hard materials may be collected and graded on an oscillating sieve 5 with a hood 9, 10. The sieve is driven by a crankshaft 6 and is supported at its rear end on flanged rollers 7. A construction of sieve for separating soft materials which may be carried over with the hard materials is shown in Fig. 4. The two end sections A, C of the sieve are formed of longitudinal bars 14,-and the intermediate sec. tion of transverse bars. Fixed fingers 15 with hooked ends 16 work between the bars of the section C and draw through the bars such soft ingredients as potato peelings.
