Abstract

The decomposition of barium silicates with water and an alkali sulphate as described in Specification 174,581 is effected with suitable proportions of alkali sulphate so as to obtain caustic alkalis and a residue of mono-barium silicate and barium sulphate which on calcination with carbon yields again the original barium silicate, i.e. either SiO22BaO or SiO23BaO or an intermediate silicate. One molecule of sulphate is used to one molecule of the di-barium silicate, and two molecules of sulphate to one molecule of the tri-barium silicate.ALSO:The decomposition of barium silicates with water and an alkali sulphate as described in Specification 174,581 is effected with suitable proportions of alkali sulphate so as to obtain caustic alkalis and a residue of monobarium silicate and barium sulphate which on calcination with carbon yields again the original barium silicate, i.e. either SiO22BaO or SiO2BaO or an intermediate silicate. One molecule of sulphate is used to one molecule of the di-barium silicate, and two molecules of sulphate to one molecule of the tri-barium silicate.
