Abstract

175,286. Fromont, G. Feb. 11, 1921, [Convention date]. Pistons; piston packing.-A joint for piston rings, Fig. 1, comprises a butt 1 on one end 2 of the ring slotted at 4 to receive the other end 3 of the ring. Fig. 2 shows a separate strap 5, slotted to receive the ends 6 of two sections of a sectional piston ring, and held close to the cylinder wall by a spring 8, Fig. 3. Fig. 4 shows a single butt-strap 9 constructed to serve for more than one piston ring, and Fig. 5 shows the application of the joint to sectional rings, the sections and straps being held against the cylinder walls by springs contained in housings 10 in the piston.
