Abstract

141,821. Beldam, W. R. Jan. 23, 1919. Packing, metallic.-Consists of sectional rings pressed on the rod magnetically. The sectional rings E are pressed inwards by springs F and are divided into two sets, pressed apart by springs G. The neck of the box contains an electro-magnet L, the circuit of which may include a resistance coil by which the pull on the packing can be regulated. The rubbing surfaces may be faced with some non-magnetic wear-resisting material.
