Tandems. - In a tandem bicycle of approximately t h e same length as an ordinary bicycle, the rear pedals 1<1> are mounted on an axle rotating freely within the hub of the rear wheel, the movement being transmitted by a chain 6 or other drive to the front pedals 1, which in turn drive the rear wheel by a chain 4 or other device. The axle of the pedals 1<1> rotates freely in a sleeve arranged within the hub of the rear wheel. The chain 4 is adjusted by movement of the rear wheel in the usual way, and the chain 6 by sliding a small chain-wheel 7 along a tube 8 of the frame. The back saddle 9, the tubes 10, 10<1>, and the rear pedals 1<1> may be removed, the machine then being used as an ordinary bicycle. The back saddle 9 may be replaced by a luggagecarrier.
