1381719 Furnace atmospheres; igniter; gas burner TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSITITUT TEKHNOLOGII MASCHINOSTROENIA and INSTITUT KHIMICHESKOI FIZIKI AKADEMII NAUK SSSR 22 Dec 1971 59714/71 Headings F4B F4F and F4T A burner for producing a protective atmosphere in a metal heating furnace comprises a main nozzle 3, auxiliary nozzles 24 leading from an annular combustion chamber 17 and directed towards the axis of the nozzle 3, and a constantly acting electrospark generator 27 igniting and maintaining combustion of an air/gas mixture supplied to the chamber 17 through a V-shaped annular slot 23. The latter is defined by annular members 21, 22 enclosed by a flange 5 and plate 9 set into the furnace wall and separated by asbestos packing 11 and 12. The nozzle 3 is held in a central bore 6 of the flange 5 with the interposition of asbestos packing 7. A mixing chamber 2 upstream of the nozzle 3 supplies an air/gas mixture with a stoichiometric air ratio of 0À5, 3%-10% of this mixture being diverted, mixed with more air to give a stoichiometric air ratio of 0À55-0À7 and supplied by duct 18 to the slot 23.
