Abstract
1395005 Plasma torch JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 24 May 1972 [13 April 1971] 9264/71 Heading H5H [Also in Division F4] A burner comprises an annular chamber 11, at least one tube 12 for supplying a fuel/oxidant mixture to the chamber 11 and thence to a combustion zone through the inner wall 13 which is formed of a porous refractory material, a nozzle 15 having an exit surrounded by the wall 13 and through which a gas is injected into the combustion zone, a cathode 18 at least partly within the nozzle 15, means for striking an arc between the cathode 18 and the nozzle 15 and means for producing an axial magnetic field in the nozzle 15 to cause the arc to rotate. The magnetic field may be produced by a permanent magnet 21 or a D.C. coil. The burner is used in a gas flame turbine tube.
