Abstract

1380050 Rotary positive-displacement machines REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT 31 Dec 1971 [5 Jan 1971] 60982/71 Heading F1F An internally meshing gear machine of the n and n+1 lobe type comprises a detachable sealing device housed in the stator 2. A seal holder 1 is mounted in a part-cylindrical walled cavity of stator 2 and has an axial slot in which a spring- urged radial seal 4 is housed. An axial sealing shim 6 is held between an axial shoulder on holder 1 and a plate 8 screwed into holder 1 and having springs 7 for shim 6. An axial retaining plate 9 is fixed to the other end of holder 1. Means for adjusting the orientation of holder 1 in stator 2 include a plate 10 detachably mounted by nut 11 on stem 12 of plate 8 and having a screw 15 which extends through an arcuate slot 15, in plate 10 and is screwed into a washer 18 fixed to stator cheek plate 19 by screws 20. A boss 14 is rotatably mounted in plate 10 and threadedly receives a rod 25 which is also freely rotatably received in a similar boss 29 rotatably mounted in washer 18. Thus by adjusting knob 28 the plate 10 and item holder 1 are pivoted about screw 15 to adjust the orientation of holder 1 in stator 2. A bead 17 in co-operating slots 16 of the stator and holder serves to guide holder 1 into the stator cavity during assembly, and a wax plug 26 retains the radial seal 4 away from the rotor 3 until such time as the wax melts due to heat in the engine, the seal 4 then sealingly engaging motor 3.
