Abstract

1456938 Centrifugal pumps REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT and AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT 24 April 1974 [14 May 1973] 18019/74 Heading F1C A fluid circulating pump, e.g. for machine tools, domestic or commercial washing machines or, as shown, for an I.C. engine, and of the type driven by a continuous flexible member, e.g. a belt (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), has its axis of rotation off-set from the axis of a mounting and fluid transfer pipe 18 of the pump, so that the belt can be tensioned by angularly adjusting the pump about the axis of the pipe 18. The pump is then locked in its adjusted position by screws screwed into the engine block 6 and passing through arcuate slots (4) in the pump housing. The pipe 18 is formed integrally with a sealing gasket 15 and is provided with an O-ring seal 22. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the O-ring surrounds the pipe 18 but seats against the flat face of the engine block. The pipe 18 and gasket 15 are preferably moulded from plastics material. The belt 3 is cogged for additionally driving the engine timing gear.
