Abstract
1291458 Heating material under pressure ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 23 Oct 1969 [24 Oct 1968] 51895/69 Heading F4B A sintered body is made by enclosing powdered material, particularly metal powder to make an alloy ingot, in a casing, evacuating and sealing the casing, heating the casing and introducing the casing from below into a furnace chamber enclosed in a pressure chamber, introducing pressure medium into the sealed furnace and heating the casing and material for a desired time under pressure. The powder is isostatically compacted and is preheated under atmospheric pressure. The furnace comprises an outer sheath 11, a pressure chamber wall 10, and an insulating sheath 17 suspended from and sealed to a top cover 13 for the pressure chamber. A cover 25 for the insulating sheath 17 and an inner sleeve 40 forming the furnace chamber proper are also suspended from the top cover 13. A bottom cover 51 is mounted to move vertically on a pillar 61, and seats in annular part 50 sealed to the pressure chamber wall 10 and carrying a sleeve 56 projecting between the insulating sheath 17 and the wall 40 of the furnace chamber proper. Heating elements 47 are mounted on the outside of the furnace chamber wall, and an insulated bottom closure 55 secured to the bottom 51 projects into the furnace chamber and serves as a support for a charge 16.
