Abstract
1291459 Furnace for heating under pressure ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 23 Oct 1969 [24 Oct 1968] 5873/71 Divided out of 1291458 Heading F4B [Also in Division H5] A furnace for treating material in a gaseous atmosphere at a pressure of 500 bar and a temperature of up to 1500 C. comprises a cylindrical pressure chamber comprising an inner tube 10 and a sheath 11 with an upper end closure 13 projecting into the chamber and sealed to it by a ring 14. The furnace chamber 15 is surrounded by an insulating sheath 17. An insulating cover 25 is supported by a ring 29 clamped between the upper end ring 23 of the sheath 17 and the closure 13. A space between the cover 25 and closure 13 is connected to the furnace space through a pressure equalizing opening. Heating elements 47 supported by rails on the outside of a tube 40 suspended from the cover 25 are supplied by a conductor 35 passing through the closure 13 and cover 25. The lower end of the pressure chamber has a ring 50 permanently sealed to the wall 10 and a cover 51 seating in ring 50. An insulating pad 55 supports the charge 16. The cover 51 and pad 55 are supported by brackets 59 and are raised and lowered by a cylinder 62 to charge the furnace. Atmosphere gas is supplied between the pressure cylinder 10 and the insulating sheath 17 through an inlet 37, and ring 56 supported on the seating ring 50 forms a labyrinth seal with the sheath 17 and the heating element support tube 40. Rings loosely carried at the lower part of the seating 50 fall when the charge is lowered to protect the part against which the cover 51 seals from radiation from the hot charge. A movable press 1 has yokes 3, 4 to engage the top and bottom of the furnace while in use.
