Abstract
1399669 Pressing metallic powders HOMOGENEOUS METALS Inc 26 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 14505/73 Heading B5A Compression is applied to a metallic powder 11 (such as a super alloy) and to a surrounding mould 10 having a porosity substantially equal to that of the powder to be pressed. As described, powdered iron mould halves 10 and a core 17 formed with a powder bulk density of 70% of the theoretical density of iron, are placed in a metal can 13, and filled with In 100 having a powder bulk density of 70% of the theoretical. The can 13 is evacuated, sealed, and the can, mould, core and In 100 pressed hot or cold by a plunger 14. The core 17 is leached out, and the mould halves 10 machined or pickled away from the compressed body of In 100.
