Abstract
1,128,188. Sintered heryllium-aluminium alloys. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. March 10, 1967 [March 10, 1966], No.11419/ 67. Heading C7D. A sintered Be-Al alloy containing 50-90% Be and the remainder Al is produced by liquid phase sintering of a green compact formed of a powder mixture of Be, Al or an activating sintering agent such as an alkali or alkaline earth metal halide, preferably a 1À1 mixture of Li F-Li Cl. The mixture contains 0.5-1% by weight of the Li F-Li Cl mixture and sintering is carried out in argon at 800‹-1100‹C. A double pressing and sintering may be carried out to achieve a final density of 96% theoretical. The sintered body may either be cooled normally to form a structure of Be particles dispersed in Al or quenched to form a structure of Be particles dispersed in a Be-Al alloy.
