Abstract
1282479 Turbulence-reducing lane marker for swimming pools SWIMQUIP Inc 8 Oct 1969 [4 Feb 1969] 49429/69 Heading A4N A turbulence-reducing device for swimming pools has a cylindrical housing 23 containing a buoyant member 31, a plurality of substantially imperforate ribs 24-27 extending from the housing 23 and supporting a body in the form of spaced apart rings 28, 28a. The body of the device is made in two parts (22) and (22a), Fig.3 (not shown) and has conical ends with openings (33) and (33a) through which a cable 16 is threaded. The two halves of the housing are joined by means of projecting portions of ribs 24 and 26 which have notches 29 to interlock with end rings 28 of the respective halves. Relative rotation is prevented by engagement of the ribs 24 and 26 with detents 30. The buoyant member 31 may be dispensed with if the housing 23 is made airtight or may be replaced by a malleable foam. The floats are threaded on the cable 16 in end to end relationship Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) with one tensioning device (15) in each cable. The device (15) is made up in two halves similar to those of the floats, but instead of a buoyant insert a fixed draw screw (35) is provided which engages a threaded fastener (44) attached to a shaft (42). Thus when the device is rotated the shaft (42) is drawn inwardly. Suitable hooks and eyes are provided for attachment to the cable 16. The mode of operation of the invention is illustrated in Figs. 7A to 7G (not shown) and is based on the principal of the float rotating in the orbital flow of the wave and then counter rotating due to the unbalanced weight of entrained water and thus removing the wave crest and transferring water to the trough.
