Abstract

911,963. Gravity-separation apparatus. PAUSER, O. May 23, 1961 [June 11, 1960], No. 18532/61. Addition to 866,659. Class 46. In a modification of the main invention in the parent Specification the container has an independent buoyant floor portion 13, Fig. 1, to which the suction pipe 14 is attached, and an independent buoyant side wall portion 11a, the two portions being separated by a narrow leakage gap 13a, buoyancy of the floor portion being provided by one or more floats (e.g. 18 as shown) and buoyancy of the wall portion being provided by a hollow ring 11b on its top edge. On suction being applied, rate of withdrawal is greater than rate of flow upwards through the gap 13a, so that the level in the container drops, whereupon the wall portion (which floats on the contained water in Fig. 1) sinks, until buoyant equilibrium is re-established with the upper surface lie of the wall portion located just below the surrounding water surface so that dirt &c passes over it into the container, Fig. 2. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the floor 13 is supported by a spider attached to floats located outside the container.
