Abstract

1278680 Adhesive tape LITTON BUSINESS SYSTEMS Inc 12 Nov 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 55435/69 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] An adhesive label or tape 1 comprises a substrate 3, e.g. of paper or cloth, a barrier layer 5 and a water soluble pressure sensitive adhesive layer 7, the barrier layer 5 being sufficiently dense so as to permit the passage of no more than 10 ml/sq. in. at a pressure of 12.2 inches of water in 400 seconds and having a grease resistance such that at least 1800 seconds are required for water free coloured turpentine to pass therethrough. The water soluble pressure sensitive adhesive may be that disclosed in U.S. Specification Nos. 2985609 and 3249572. The barrier layer may be polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate or polystyrene but is preferably water soluble such as an animal, vegetable or natural glues, casein, gum arabic, starch, dextrin, British gum, chlorinated starch, sodium silicate, polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose and methyl or hydroxyethyl cellulose. A release sheet 9 comprising Kraft paper 9 having extruded polyethylene 13 on both faces and a release coat 15 on one face may be used to protect the adhesive.
