Abstract
1,273,973. Pile driving. T. MORRIS. 6 June, 1969 [9 March, 1968; 15 Feb., 1969], No. 11647/68. Heading E1H. Apparatus for driving a post 5 comprises a hammer head 4 pivotally mounted on an arm 1 having a bracket 8 fixed thereto, vertical oscillation of the arm to make the head 4 strike the post being effected by vertical oscillation of a pair of links 2a pivotally attached at 9 to the body of a tractor 3 and at 6a to a cross-member 6 rigidly secured to the arm. The head 4 is kept in a vertical attitude by links 12, 13 having pivotal connections at each end thereof, a similar link 14 extending from the link 13 to the tractor. A link 2b extending between the links 2a from a pivotal connection 11a on the link 14 to a similar connection 7 on the bracket causes the arm to oscillate about the connections 6a with a relatively large amplitude in response to oscillation of the links 2a about the connections 9 with a relatively small amplitude, oscillation of the links 2a being effected by hydraulicallyoperated mechanism 10 on the tractor. The amplitude of the arm's oscillations can be adjusted by selecting for the link 2b a different one of the alternative connections 7. (For Figures see next page)
