Abstract

872,458. Shovelling machines. PRIESTMAN BROS. Ltd. Feb. 3, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 7409/59. Class 68(1). To enable a shovel excavator to be easily converted from a drag shovel to a face shovel and vice-versa, the shovel 11 is so mounted on a frame 10 secured to a shovel arm 6 that the shovel can be rotated through 180 degrees about an axis at right angles to the plane of the frame 10 without being entirely dis-associated from the frame when the means 30 normally securing the shovel to the frame are removed. The means 30 preferably consists of bolts passed through aligned, suitably positioned holes in both the frame and the upper surface of the shovel. The shovel can be rotated as desired when the bolts between the bolts and the frame 10 are removed and the shovel is supported from the frame by a collar on the upper end of a stub shaft welded to the top of the shovel and projecting up through the frame. A jack is positioned between the shovel arm 6 and the frame 10, which is pivotally secured at one side to the arm.
