Abstract
1,257,598. Collecting cylinder. POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG VEB. 9 July, 1970, No. 33431/70. Heading B8R. In a sheet-collecting cylinder 1, e.g. for transverse folders of rotary, web-printing machines, sheets 10 are held on the cylinder by sets of cam-controlled, movable piercing needles 3, each set being associated with a set of cooperating, cam-operated strippers 5 which are movable in a direction opposite to the movement of the needles 3. Each needle 3 is secured, via a lever 6, to a shaft 2 mounted in the cylinder and itself secured at one end to a lever 7 having a roller 8 which runs on a stationary cam outside the cylinder 1. The associated strippers 5 are each secured, via levers 16, to a shaft 4 mounted in the cylinder 1 and secured at the end opposite to lever 7 on shaft 2, to a lever 15 having a roller 16 running on a stationary cam 12. A sheet 10, pierced and held by the needles 3 which protrude a distance X from the cylinder periphery, is freed from the rotating cylinder when the needles are retracted and the strippers projected, each through a distance X/2, by engagement of roller 8 with flat 11 on cam 9 and roller 14 with a protrusion 13 on cam 12 respectively. The cams can be made inoperative to collect more than one sheet 10 on the cylinder 1 to form a stack.
