Abstract
591,981. Feeding webs. ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES, Ltd., and KATZ, L. NAMENYI-. May 18, 1945, No. 12597. [Class 100 (i)] [Also in Groups VIII and XV] In a machine for punching paper for filing, and, also if desired, reinforcing the perforated parts by the application of a self-adhesive reinforcing tape 14 which is fed from a roll and severed by a knife 29 during the punching operation, the tape 14 is advanced at each operation of the lever 5 which operates the punches 3 by means of pins or projections 13 on a bow-shaped spring 11 connected to lever arms 10 which are moved with the lever 5 and act to advance the tape as the lever 5 is returned to inoperative position after a punching operation. The pins 13 are forced into engagement with the tape by the co-operation of a pair of cam surfaces 19 and a pair of bent plates 23, Fig. 2 not shown, with curved extensions below which the ends of the bow 11 is directed by the cams 19. The pins 13 are arranged above slots 16 in the base of the apparatus. Spring members 17 attached to the levers 10 press the tape on to the base plate. As the levers 10 return upon downward movement of the lever 5, extensions on the plates 23 direct the ends of the bow 11 above the plates so as to free the tape from the pins. If no tape is required to be fed the arms 21 carrying the cams 19 are tripped by a lever arm 22 to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3, so that the feeding-pins do not operate. The punchings are received in a box 27.
