Abstract

1,252,142. Plate heat-exchangers. AGFAGEVAERT A.G. 15 Nov., 1968 [18 Nov., 1967], No. 54339/68. Heading F4S. In a plate heat-exchanger for controlling the temperature of a photographic processing fluid and comprising a stack of stainless steel heat transfer plates 2 spaced apart by interposed plates 10 of synthetic plastics material, each plastics plate is provided with a U-shaped slot aperture 9 or 14, the apertures of the plates 10 in the stack being suitably connected through holes 8 to define alternate separate flow paths respectively for the processing fluid and for a heating medium. Processing fluid enters through inlet pipe 4 and, as shown, flows in counter-flow to the heating medium. The stack plates 2, 10 are compressed together by means of tie-bars (6, Fig. 1). Examples of suitable plastics materials for the plates 10 are vulcanite, polyvinylchloride, polytetrafluorethylene, and polyethylene. The thickness of the plastics plates progressively decreases along the length of the stack. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 2, not shown) the plate heat-exchanger is constructed with a single fluid flow path for the processing fluid only, the exchanger being immersed in the heating medium.
