Abstract
1,251,657. Mining systems. C. V. PEAKE. 25 Sept., 1969 [25 Sept., 1968], No. 45428/68. Heading E1F. A system of sequentially mining webs W, W<SP>1</SP>, W<SP>2</SP>.. of material extending between roadways 2, 3 comprises using a machine 1 to cut the webs in the longitudinal direction thereof, the adjacent webs being cut in opposite directions and the machine being moved transversely between the webs at the ends thereof and cutting into the web to which it is moved. The machine frame is connected by hydraulic jacks to a plurality of roof support props 5 whereby alternate relative displacement of the frame and the props can be caused in mutually transverse directions. The frame may also carry roof support props. Further roof support props 6 are transferred through the machine from a position in front of a web being cut to a position in front of the next web, the props 6 being flexibly interlinked and the machine having guide rails and arms to facilitate the movement of the props. The machine frame is rectangular and has a guide rail for passage therealong of the cutting means, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), which can be selectively disposed at three sides of the machine. Alternatively, a plurality of cutting means may be provided. A scraper conveyor on the machine delivers cut material to a further conveyor. The machine may be automatically operated.
