Abstract
1492586 Advancing mine roof support systems K M GROETSCHEL 31 Oct 1974 [5 Nov 1973] 47094/74 Heading E1P In an advancing mine roof support system for an inclined seam a row of supports 1, 2, 3 are interconnected by means 14, such as a chain extending along the conveyor 38, through steering devices 9 spaced therealong each steering device 9 being associated with one of the supports to allow lateral movement and a power-operated adjustment device 22 adapted to move the means 14 and hence the devices 9 in a direction generally lengthwise of the means 14; alignment devices 23, 24, 25 being also provided for individually aligning one support in a desired forepoling direction. The support 1 is connected to the means 14 by an additional brace in the form of a telescopic jib 16 which may contain a conveyor advancing jack 27 in addition to the usual ram 26. The steering device 9 includes parallel bars 10 and an aligning extension 12 adapted to co-operate with wedges 13, the device operating as disclosed in Specification 1287096 and the frame A of the supports being provided with guide members 8 bearing against the associated frame B. In a modification, see Fig. 3 (not shown), the unit 22 above is replaced by a modified unit [22'] secured to and aligned with the connected means [14']. For details of securing the jib to one of the supports and of an adjustment device the Specification and Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown) should be referred to respectively.
