Abstract
1,153,573. Advancing mine roof supports. W. E. & F. DOBSON Ltd. 16 Aug., 1966 [17 July, 1965], No. 30466/65. Heading E1P. In a mine roof support system for use in an inclined seam and comprising a series of hydraulic roof supports 2, 3, 4, 5 .. each retractable and advanceable in turn towards the working face by respective hydraulic jacks 6, 7, 8, 9.. connected to a conveyor 1, each successive support is interconnected by a single chain or rope 10, 11 12 which corrects the downwards drift of the supports along the inclined seam during their advance. Each chain or rope is connected at one end to a point P on its associated upper support and at the other end to a point P1 on its associated lower support, the point P1 being forward of the point P when the pair of supports are side by side. A hydraulic jack may be provided between the extreme upper support and the adjacent lower support of the series to enable any downward drift of the extreme upper support to be corrected. Each of the jacks is connected to the conveyor by a link 13, 14, 15 or 16 having a wedge-shaped outer end arranged to co-act with abutments on its support to assist in aligning when the support is fully advanced. Each link may be connected to the conveyor through a runner in a guide carried by the conveyor Fig. 6 (not shown). The runners are connected by links running in the guide and longitudinally adjustable by tensioning a cable connected thereto.
