Abstract
772,868. Mine roof supports. GULLICK Ltd., and SEAMAN, T. Aug. 23, 1954 [June 25, 1953], No. 17609/53. Class 20(2) In a hydraulic roof support having two relatively movable roof supporting structures 10, 11, coupled together by a double acting hydraulic ram 12 operable to alternately push and pull, respectively, the leading structure 11 and the trailing structure 10 to move the support from one roof supporting position to another, the trailing structure 10 consists of a base or skid 13 carrying four hydraulic pit props 15, one pair on each side, and a roof engaging structure or canopy 16 mounted on the props and including a pair of spaced apart members 16a, and the leading structure 11 consists of an elongated foot or skid 17 slidable into the base 13 between the pairs of props 15 and having thereon one or more hydraulic props 19 provided with a roof supporting girder or headpiece 18 movable longitudinally between the members 16a. In a further modification the roof engaging structure of the trailing section includes a pair of forwardly extending girders 31, Fig. 5, which are adapted to be supported, near their forward ends, by wedges 38 upon a crosshead 37 supported by the props 34 of the leading structure.
